MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Must possess a Level III Educational Assistant License or work towards acquiring one.
  2. Reasonable degree of computer literacy.
  3. Must possess a Substitute Licensure through NMPed

SUPERVISOR:   Classroom Teacher, Principal, Assistant Principal

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:    To assist the classroom teacher in achieving learning objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.   

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Be punctual; adhere to rules set by building principal and as outlined by the staff handbook, thirty minutes for lunch. Overtime or make-up time must be approved by the Principal or Assistant Principal.
  2. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skill initially introduced by the teacher.
  3. Assist the teacher in planning and implementing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
  4. Operate and care for equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  5. Distribute and collect workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction.
  6. Guide independent study, Reading mastery groups Corrective Reading groups, math ability groups, enrichment work, and remedial work set-up as assigned by the teacher.
  7. Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
  8. Keep bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up to date.
  9. Assist with such large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud and storytelling.
  10. Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of oral communication with students.
  11. Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
  12. Monitor and circulate among students during assigned lunch or breakfast duties (find cover for assigned duty as needed for absences).
  13. Assist with lunch, snack and clean-up routines.
  14. Assist with wash-up and toilet routines (K-2).
  15. Alert and provide documentation to the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  16. Substitute for teacher as necessary or serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  17. Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  18. Participate in faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, in-services, and other trainings

             as assigned.                                                 

  1.   Other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or assistant principal.                           

     

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:                      185 days.  Work schedule and hours to be established by the Board of Education on annual basis, through the recommendation of the Superintendent.

 

SALARY:                                                      To be established by the Board of Education on an annual basis, through the adoption of Salary Schedules.

 

PRIMARY JOB LOCATION:                    Elementary, Middle or High School Classroom.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:                Employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.

 

EVALUATION:                                            Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Evaluation of Personnel School Board Policy.
